As I stumble somewhat haphazardly into the new year, I’ve been thinking a lot about an artist I first discovered back in July, supporting Olivesque at The Castle on Oldham Street. Taking comfort in a dimly lit corner, I spied a stack of fanzines on a table at the side of the room entitled ‘Somewhere In The Blue’ by Aimee Fatale
Turns out I’d previously enjoyed Aimee’s old band Low Hummer, a 6 piece alternative dream rock group hailing from Hull, who seemed destined for success, having toured with The Manic Street Preachers before unexpectedly splitting. Them’s the breaks I guess, but maybe the stars aligned with Aimee now pursuing her solo career in such salient fashion.
I don’t often say this but I feel lucky to have been in the audience that night, knowing it wouldn’t be long before those songs were no longer my little secret. Revealing It could be better (but it’s Good enough) with it’s Leonard Cohen inspiration and accompanying Twin Peaks style live visual, feels like an enchanting first step. Every note beautifully poised, drifting into a seductively mystical dream.
